Kathleen Hughes

Risk Communications Strategist

Kathleen is a writer by trade and a strategist by habit. Over the course of her career, she has worked as a journalist, author, communications manager, and recruiter, building teams of communicators and trainers in the technology and life sciences sectors.

That background shaped the way she approaches insurance today: ask good questions, find the real issue, and make the answer understandable. At DiNicola Insurance Services, Kathleen helps turn complicated coverage questions into plain-English conversations.

With a professional foundation deeply rooted in communication, Kathleen earned her bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland, alongside minors in English and Psychology. She holds Property, Casualty, Life, and Health licenses, and recently earned her specialized Certified Restaurant Risk Professional designation. Her versatile background also includes years of managing content strategies and resource teams for consulting firms, which perfectly pairs with her knack for clear client education.

When she is off the clock, Kathleen is usually making something, in the kitchen or in glass. She spends her free time cooking, creating stained glass and mosaics, watching old movies, and embracing her sci-fi geek tendencies in full.

Fun fact: she co-authored two modern "Anti-Bride" wedding books for Chronicle Books, proving she has a long history of helping people navigate stressful events with style and a sense of humor.
